The Project Manager Career Development has been appointed and is coordinating work on this initiative.
A workshop was held for career advisers who work with Indigenous students from remote communities to assist them in developing Transition Plans for Indigenous students who are completing their NTCE in 2006. Career advisers were also briefed about the range of support services available for Indigenous students in their transition from school to work or further education. This included presentations from Careers Advice Australia, Employment and Training Field Officers and Mission Australia.
The outcomes for the Pathways Mentorship project link with recommendations about the development of personal learning plans for students in the recently released SACE Review Report. If these recommendations are accepted, work on this initiative will be aligned with the Pathways Mentorship Project.
August 2006
A professional learning workshop and an Industry Forum were conducted for career educators around the Northern Territory. The Industry Forum was a joint initiative with the Chamber of Commerce and designed to strengthen links between career educators and key industry personnel. Participants were also briefed on the new Career Advice Australia Initiatives and the proposed School to Work Transition Strategic Plan.
This project will need to be consistent with the direction proposed in the recently released SACE Review Report, if those recommendations are accepted. The outcomes for the Pathways Mentorship Project link with the Report’s recommendations about the development of personal learning plans for students.
Future activities planned for Semester 2 include providing intensive pathways mentorship support for career advisers in remote communities to assist them in developing transition plans for Indigenous students.
January 2006
Curriculum Services has conducted a professional learning workshop for career educators around the Territory and has planned an extensive workshop for career educators in Week 5 of first term. This workshop has been jointly planned with the Chamber of Commerce and aims to further upskill career advisers to provide leadership for school to work transition programs in their schools.
