$42 Million Plan for Territory Schools

The Territory Government is committed to providing teachers with high quality support and professional development so they have the skills and knowledge to meet the learning needs of students in a wide range of subject areas.

The Government has committed an extra $5.41 million to provide professional support to teachers.

Key initiatives include

• supporting teachers to work together to develop and share good teaching and learning practices... more

• improving the quality and relevance of teachers’ professional development

• providing support for teachers to become mentors for senior students... more

• developing a new staffing formula for schools... more

• expanding support for special pedagogies and resources to enhance teaching and learning for students with special needs... more

• developing a strategic approach to recruiting, retaining and valuing teachers

• improving pre-service training for teachers

• supporting teachers to record students’ learning needs, their progress and achievements... more

• assisting schools to develop programs for teachers and parents to work together... more

• working to improve housing and transport for teachers in remote communities
