Qualified Counsellors for Secondary Schools
Current Update
Twenty school counsellors are currently employed in urban and regional secondary schools. The school counsellors are providing a comprehensive resource in secondary schools to assist the social-emotional needs of young people. The school counsellors have increased the capacity of schools to respond to students' social and emotional difficulties and improve the effectiveness of preventative programs.
Under the NT Government's Closing the Gap strategy, ten new remote school counsellor positions will be rolled out over five years. Four of these positions are expected to be filled in early 2008.
The Stop It Before It Starts initiative has been completed. The outcomes and material developed in this project are currently being utilised to inform the developing of increased mandatory reporting training and child protection education.
