Overview

Following community consultation on the findings in the Secondary Education Report, the Northern Territory Government announced that a stronger focus needed to be placed on better engaging 11 to 14 year olds in education. A commitment was made to consult further with school communities about how this could best be achieved.

On 7 September 2005, the Minister for Employment, Education and Training launched Making the Most of Middle Years – a community consultation on how to better engage 11-14 year olds in education.

The two staged community consultation process was undertaken by Socom. Ms Sheila O’Sullivan, Chairman of Socom, assisted by Ms Gay Morris, an educational expert specialising in middle years. The community consultation concluded on 24 March 2006.

This is a Students and Learning initiative.
