June 2007

This project has been contracted to the NT Council of Government School Organisations (COGSO) to implement the program in targeted secondary school communities in 2007.

The Remote Aboriginal Children's Services Support Unit, a part of the Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education, was awarded the contract to undertake an audit of similar initiatives in remote and community schools, and commenced in January 2007.

December 2006

This project has been contracted to the NT Council of Government School Organisations (COGSO). COGSO will employ an officer to develop the program during Semester 2 2006, and then to implement the program in targeted secondary school communities in 2007. The Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education has been engaged to undertake the preliminary work.

January 2006

This program will assist schools to develop specific programs to increase knowledge, skills and experience of parents and teachers in working together to enhance young people's learning.

The program will be based on the notion that parents and caregivers have a role to play in providing positive support to their children and encouraging their attendance at school.

Though the program is still in its embryonic stages, a project team has been formed, composed of the project manager, BBS Implementation Team contact, Schools Division, Indigenous Education, COGSO, representatives from schools and specialists as required The team met twice towards the end of 2005 and has developed a draft Project Brief.
