Individual Participant Comments
|
|
All young people in the Northern Territory –
and especially Indigenous young people in remote
communities – have access to quality secondary
education
|
Should have stronger focus on pedagogy.
Should assess the implication of all recommendations
on retention of teachers.
More support for teachers is essential.
|
|
All young people have quality teaching and learning
that meets their learning needs at the various
stages of their development
|
Will Year 7 teachers move if Year 7 students
are moved to middle years?
The curriculum is working well. It will be a
shame to change it.
Would not support a move to destabilise the
curriculum framework or make it too prescriptive.
|
|
All young people have access to support for their
social and emotional needs when they need it
|
|
|
More young people stay on at school longer and
more complete Year 12
|
|
|
All young people are well prepared for their
future pathways when they leave school
|
|
|
The Northern Territory community has confidence
in the quality of its secondary education
|
|
Other Comments:
Should not destabilise the primary education system
to fix the secondary education system.
High level of reservation of the ‘educational enablers’
because of a lack of detail and no information on its
implications.
The community is lacking information and have no idea
how the recommendations will be implemented.
How will the changes be resourced?
Public meetings should be held before 18 June to discuss
specific issues. Topics should include:
- Learning Precincts;
- Year 7s and 10s – choice vs. uniformity;
- Removal of local school councils; and
- Professional development for teachers.
There are too many questions left unanswered.
Consultation needs to be ongoing.
Every household should be provided with a survey form.
The language used in the report is difficult which
makes it hard for the community to respond to.
The Community won’t be able to engage in dialogue
if it cannot understand Reader’s Guide.
Concerned that consultation is only occurring at a
conceptual level and not on the detail.
FAQs should be classified by stakeholder group.
