Education Discussion Forums - Information
In the first two weeks of August, representatives from
school communities and interest groups around the Territory
had the opportunity to discuss proposals from the Secondary
Education Report. These public forums formed the third
and final part of the community consultation process
on the Secondary Education Report.
Each forum considered a number of propositions drawn
from the report. These were selected on the basis of
the key outcomes defined in the report, and all the
comments and submissions received during Phase One and
Two.
All Special Points of Contact (SPOCs) who participated
in Phases One and Two were invited to nominate to participate
as a member of the speakers' panel at these Forums.
The panels were comprised of:
- Nominated representatives from school communities
and stakeholder groups;
- Nominated representatives from the peak teacher
and parent organisations;
- Nominated students representatives who participated
in forums with the Department of Employment, Education
and Training's Chief Executive and the Chief Minister's
Youth Roundtable; and
- Representatives of interest groups who had made
a written submission to Priority Education.
The size of the panels varied throughout the Territory,
determined by the number of nominees who volunteered
in each region. The Forums went for approximately for
two hours.
Panel members and the audience debated the propositions
and were then invited to complete individual response
sheets which were collected at the end of the evening.
These formed part of the community feedback on the report.
