Interactive Distance Learning (IDL) Studio at Katherine School of the Air

Current Update

The Interactive Distance Learning (IDL) Studio at Katherine School of the Air (KSOA) was officially opened on 9 March 2006. The studio has an IDL Leader specifically targeted to facilitate and support the development and application of IDL. The school commenced delivering lessons from the new studio from 13 February 2006 and the teachers and students are excited about the new software “REACT” which they have found easy to use, and allows real-time high quality video streaming, high quality audio streaming, collaboration tools while developing a sense of community.

The new studio has enabled KSOA to double its IDL delivery to five days per week, and they have been able to extend the number of lessons delivered over IDL as well as delivering extra curriculum such as Junior Rangers and Frog Watch sessions. Parents and home tutors are also benefiting from the IDL tutorials and lessons.

The Northern Territory Open Education Centre (NTOEC) has full access to the IDL services at the Darwin studio, and the delivery of IDL lessons to 10 remote schools has commenced. The delivery of music lessons from the NT School of Music is also planned.

This project has been completed.

Overview

This project aims to establish an IDL studio at Katherine School of the Air to facilitate the delivery of lessons and activities, and therefore allowing NTOEC full time access to the Darwin studio. An IDL officer at Katherine School of the Air will facilitate and support the service to remote distance education families and remote school students.
